Born in Italy in 1870, Maria Montessori earned an M.D. and went on to study child development. She dedicated her life to the study and education of children. From these studies and observations, she developed special materials and methods in which to guide the child. Today, Maria Montessori is honored for her original insight of the learning process and the potential of each individual child. Her research is still studied worldwide.
